Friends:
I am seeking a definition of "date of manufacture" in the manufacture of APIs, but just cannot seem to find an official one.
Is it:
a. the date of the reaction manufacturing the step that creates the
key intermediate
b. the date of the reaction manufacturing the step that creates the
crude product
c. the date of the crystallization step
d. the date of any milling step
e. the date of the final packaging
Can anyone share any thoughts on this?
With best regards,

Dear colleagues
When manufacturing a medicinal product the date of manufacture is clearly the date when the active ingredient is first mixed with another component.
The situation is not so clear with API's because of the diversity of sources of material.
Perhaps the date of manufacture could be defined as the point at which GMP is first applied, as set out in Q7A, /EU Annex 18 (GMP for APIs) Section 1.3, and the associated table, Table 1 "Application of this Guide to API Manufacturing". This is in some ways arbitrary but would give some consistency and regulatory authority.
In most cases the date of manufacture would be the date at which the API starting material (a molecule with significant structural similarities to the API) was introduced into the process.
